How to avoid damage from Feed 'n' Weed on new buffalo turf?

I freshly laid Sir Walter Buffalo from Bunnings only 5 days ago. all looking good and watering daily.
Dad has come around today trying to be nice and used Brunning's Weed 'n' Feed on the new turf. Which is not suitable for Buffalo Grass, let alone turf that is less than 3 months old.

What can I do to stop the damage? I am watering it to try to dilute the weed n feed but I am afraid that I may be overwatering the new turf?

It sounds like your dad had the best intentions, but using Brunnings Weed 'n' Feed on Sir Walter Buffalo, especially freshly laid turf, can be problematic. Since it's not suitable for Buffalo grass and newly laid turf, you're right to be concerned. You're already on the right track by watering the grass to dilute the product, but be careful to avoid overwatering. It's important to give the lawn a thorough soak once or twice a day, rather than frequent shallow watering, to flush the product deeper into the soil and away from the roots. Keep an eye on the turf to ensure it’s draining properly and not becoming waterlogged, as that could lead to further issues like root rot.

Over the next few days, watch closely for signs of stress, such as yellowing or browning patches. If you notice significant damage, you may need to take additional steps to help the lawn recover. Once the initial issue passes, you can apply a product like Seasol, which will help alleviate stress and promote healthy root growth, but avoid using any fertiliser for now. Fertiliser could add more stress to your newly laid turf, so it's best to hold off until the lawn has fully recovered. Hopefully, with continued care and monitoring, you can prevent any lasting damage.
