What is this tree and can it be transplanted?

Hi, have a couple of small trees growing behind my back shed. They have grown quite quickly and I have let it go too long. Was thinking of cutting them down but thought maybe I could transplant them. But unsure if they are now too big.

Can anyone identify the tree? Tried google image but didn't help. I am in Brisbane
One is quite close to the shed slab - are these likely to survive transplanting given the relatively mature size?

Hi @dant

The close-up of the leaves looks remarkably like the Chinese elm (Celtis sinensis) which apparently is known as one of Brisbane's "weediest" trees! It has few redeeming features if you happen to have one (or more) either on your property or nearby in your neighbours' gardens.

Chinese elm can grow extremely large quite quickly. Their roots can be damaging to structures and, if you have any chainlink fencing, they can interwine in the fencing which makes them very difficult to cut down.

This site lists this tree in first place for weediness. Most likely if I was in your position, I'd remove any on your property before they become a major problem!

Looks like I have some work this weekend.

On a separate matter, I was considering replanting as I would like a tree or two behind the pool area.

Is there a good business selling relatively mature trees that you can recommend?
What are some nice species that grow quite quickly? (Was originally considering a Tuckeroo tree)

I am based in Victoria (Melbourne) so am perhaps not the best person to advise you on what sorts of trees would be suitable for your location!

Can I suggest you call into your local Bunnings and speak to one of the horticulturists in the garden/outdoor area? Local advice and being able to see what is available in-store that would give you the shade you want is part of the great service team members can provide!
