How to build a shower base?

Hi, I'm trying to add a shower to the existing laundry/toilet. The shower base have to be approx 100mm higher than the other floor for the 50mm waste pipe to run under it.

Just wondering that what's the best way to prepare a 100mm high shower base? Is it better to make a 100mm high timber frame and full it up with mortar or is there any other better way?

Also another question I have is that is it compulsory to have a floor waste in a bathroom in QLD? The shower will be enclosed shower, the toilet and vanity both will have overflow points in them, so the chances of any flooding are extremely low.

Hi Mitchell, thanks for the reply. I have contacted 4 different plumbers. Two said a floor waste is required and two said no need of a floor waste as long as the shower is enclosed and other fixtures like toilet, vanity have overflow vents built in.

That's why I'm confused and not sure whom to believe.

Regarding the shower base, the area I have is not standard. So will need to make a base.

If two of the plumbers you've spoken to has said that you need a waste installed, odds are it is required. As Mitchell has mentioned it's best to inquire at your local council regarding the rules and regulations of installing a new shower in your home. I propose engaging the services of a plumber who has experience in installing new showers into existing homes. They would be more familiar with rules regarding waste placement and installation. Plus, you'll see it when they draw up their plans and submit it to the council.

I recommend asking for an official itemized quote from the plumbers you've spoken to so that its clear whether they will be installing a waste or not.

If I run a 50mm pvc shower waste pipe on top of the current tiles, what's the minimum thickness of mortar/screed which has to go on top of this pipe?
