How to replace bathroom basin and vanity benchtop?

I’m in the process of prepping for a bathroom renovation and was wondering how to replace the vanity bench top and replace the basin with a counter top basin and mixer?
FYI the bathroom will be painted black, splashback likely remain the same tiles.

Hi @StevenT1,

Thank you for your question about replacing your vanity, basin and mixer tap. This sounds like a fantastic project that I'm excited to see come to life.

Luckily, the water supply line and waste are in the perfect places for this to be a fairly simple job. You'll still require a plumber for some assistance, but it shouldn't be a difficult job thankfully.

You'll have to start by removing the tap and basin, which is probably the best time to start the conversation about what you're planning to do moving forward with your plumber. They will be able to isolate the water supply so the tap and basin can be removed.

Once the tap and basin are removed, the vanity top can be taken off. There are likely angle brackets on the inside of the vanity that are screwed into the top. You may need to cut the silicone away from the tiles to help get the vanity top free. Wear gloves and a long-sleeved work shirt to protect yourself while cutting the silicone with a utility knife.

Once the vanity top is removed, you can select and install your new vanity top. Depending on your style preferences, something like this Mondella Rococo 750mm Meranti Vanity Top might be nice.

Once in place, seal the edges with a Bathroom Silicone Sealant in your colour of choice. Check out How To Silicone a Gap for some guidance.

The cutouts in the basin top will be dictated by the installation manual of your chosen basin and mixer tap. They can likely be made with a holesaw or jigsaw depending on the size of the openings that are required.

I need it to be 1500mmbto fit the space.

Hi @StevenT1,

You can get the same Meranti vanity top 1800mm long, so it can be cut down to 1500mm for your purpose. You can see this here - Mondella Rococo 1800mm Meranti Vanity Top.

Personally, I love the Think Timber 32mm Custom Made Benchtops which can be made to measure, but I understand they are very pricey.

You can really use whatever benchtop or timber panel you like, as long as it is decently thick and sealed to protect from water.
