How to build a vegetable garden on concrete base?

Kia ora, we are wanting to turn the end of our driveway into a vegetable garden. I’m thinking raised beds, surrounded by crushed shells as the paths. 

The ground isn’t level though, and there is a drain in the centre. 

wondeing if my idea is possible? Or if anyone has an alternative?

Your idea of creating a vegetable garden with raised beds on the concrete base sounds like a fantastic way to utilise the space at the end of your driveway. Pre-made raised garden beds would be an excellent option as they are easy to set up, and you can place them directly on the uneven surface without needing to level the ground. If you'd prefer a more custom approach, you could build your own raised beds using sleepers, which will allow you to adjust the height to accommodate any sloping areas. I love the idea of using crushed shells for the pathways—it's a beautiful and natural-looking finish! However, since your area isn’t level and there's a drain in the centre, I'd recommend installing some form of edging along the driveway side to keep the shells contained within the garden bed area. Without edging, the shells may migrate towards the drain over time, potentially causing issues with water flow.

As for the drain, make sure the raised beds and shell paths don’t block it. You could leave a small gap or install a grate over the drain to ensure it remains accessible and functional.
