Hello,
I want to replace this outdoor gate lock with a Combination lock, here is a photo, Any suggetions on how to do this and a good solid product for outdoor use with simple manual combination lock. 4 digits .
Hi @JustinMcAbbe,
Thank you for your question about replacing your outdoor gate's lock.
I'd suggest either the Ikonic Satin Chrome Digital Entry Lock or Ikonic Satin Chrome Digital Lever Entry Lock. These are good options that likely won't require much modification of the gate. Likely, you'll only have to drill 2 additional holes for these locks to work.
Can you advise how thick the gate is and the distance from the centre of the handle to the edge of the door?
These two measurements are the main things that will need to match to replace the handle without too much trouble.
Once you've given these measurements, I can either confirm compatibility or look into another solution.
Jacob
Hi @JacobZ
thick the gate - 5 cmcentre of the handle to the edge - 6 cm
thank you
Thank you for getting back to me.
That's perfect, either of these locks will work with your gate.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Hello JacobZ
Few questions, I found the following information, however,
Which side should you have the keyboard? Should the keyboard be on the inside of the gate?
If the handle without the PIN code, can that handle just open the lock freely?
Is there a version where there is a Keypad on both sides?

You'd have the keyboard facing out to the street as the side without the PIN code will open freely.
Unfortunately, none of our suppliers make a digital lock with a keypad on both sides.
Is there a reason you feel the need to have a PIN code on both sides of the fence? Possibly that people might be able to put their hand through the slats and turn the lever? If this is the case, you could put a Rolltrak Clear Universal Fit Door Lock Guard on the inside of the gate to prevent this.
Let me know what you think.
Ok thanks, should be ok now, wasnt sure how the lock worked.
I purchased the lock from Bunnings, but little stuck trying to remove the old Lock, any suggestions on how to remove this gate lock. See photos
The fixing screws will always be on the inside of the lock, which will be on the opposite side of the gate to the keyhole. This is so no one can remove the screws from the outside of the gate thus gaining entry.
On the inside of the gate, try rotating the round metal cover that plate that sits against the gate, usually this will be removable and will reveal screws beneath it. There could also be a pinhole or grub screw that when pushed or unscrewed will allow you to remove the handle.
The latch plate will need to be drilled out as rivets were used to fix it in place.
Use a drill bit that is roughly the same size as the hole in the centre of the rivet. This piece in the centre is a pin that has been compressed against the back of the metal it is fixed to. The only way to remove it is by drilling it out.
Let me know how you go and if you run into any trouble, please let me know so I can assist further.
Thanks, I noticed the lock that I purchased is not going to work, as the hole the gate is round and the keypad lock, wont cover the whole.
You can screw a metal plate to the face of the door to cover the hole. Have a look at How to replace external door lock where @srik42 has used the same solution to a similar issue.
You can then install the combination lock as if the door had no hole to begin with.
Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
