How to accommodate a dishwasher and fridge in a small kitchen?

Hi,

I have 2 concerns with our kitchen that I would like to get inputs and suggestions with. The first is how can I fit in a dishwasher and the 2nd is that the space allocated for the fridge is a short by around 200mm, which would only accommodate a narrow type.

Keen to get suggestion on how should I move around and remodel things to accommodate both a standard fridge and a dishwasher.

Also, can you buy Kaboodle cabinet doors only so I can replace the one currently use or can these type of cabinets be repainted?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @francis02. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about kitchen appliances.

My first thought is that the benchtop could be cut back to accommodate a full-sized refrigerator. To achieve a professional appearance, it would likely be best to have a cabinet maker do that. You could either turn it into a small cabinet by cutting down the existing door or turning the door into a panel and fixing it in place. Be advised that there is a minimum distance as to how close you can have a stovetop from a verticle surface, which is typically around 200mm.

For the dishwasher, the least invasive place to install it would be the double cupboard on the left at the end. You'd need to speak with a plumber as to the ease of installing water at that point and waste. If the house is raised on piers, that should be a relatively straightforward task.

If the doors are of a standard size, then you could replace them with Kaboodle doors, or you can speak with our team at the Special Orders counter regarding having custom-made doors created. However, it may not be your personal taste, but that raw timber door look is quite on trend, and I think you could work with it. The current handles make it look quite dated, but I think the doors would look amazing with a simple handle swap. We've got a wide range of handles to choose from.

If you decide to paint them, you can do so with the Dulux Renovation range of cabinet paints. Here's a helpful step-by-step guide on how to paint kitchen cabinets. If these are timber doors and not laminate, the Renovation range can still be used, you just need to follow the directions for timber, instead of laminate.
