How to add insulation to a flat metal roof?

hi. I moved into my grandmothers house back in January and my brother in law dropped the ceiling because it was on its way of doing so itself, we found the tin had rust holes so he replace tin but didn’t come back to finish the ceiling. This is the only room with air conditioning. I can afford professionals but am willing to give it a try myself but I have no idea what I’m doing and what I need. And what insulation I need. I have spent hours on YouTube trying to find videos on what’s the best product to use for a flat metal roof and a lot of them are American. But from what I think I have Watched I have three options, but I’m still not quite sure. As I learned there are few options. Such as foil board. Some blanket foil stuff and the bubble foil stuff. lol sorry I forget what they are all called. Could I use batts? Then I’d need to do a ceiling. What would be the best options for that? Keeping in mind I’m on a tight budget.

I suggest having a look at the Earthwool R4.0 195 x 430 x 1160mm 7.5m² Insulation Ceiling Batt - 15 Pack - 195 x 430 x 1160. This ceiling insulation batt has efficient energy saving properties, enabling you to keep your home cool in summer and warm in winter. It's super-soft to handle and install. This product is extremely durable and comes with a 50-year warranty, so will provide a long service life. Earthwool Technology uses a bio-based binder that contains no added formaldehyde. This solution of course will require you to put in plasterboard for your ceiling. keep in mind that this is one of the most effective ones and is easy to install.

In regards to the yellow steel battens you'll see on the video there is also the option of using Roll Form Industries 6100mm Zinc Ceiling Batten or similar.

Another option is to use Ametalin 1350mm x 60m SilverSark HD Reflective Roof and Wall Insulation. Please note that this does not provide the same amount of insulation when compared to the batts.

Oh I have those ceiling batterns as some of the beams are to far apart. Not sure how to put them up and do I need specific screws?
Would I need to have a gap between the batts and roof?

Could you please provide a little bit more information about what you'd like to install? Were you looking at adding additional beams? What were the beams too far apart for installing, the plasterboard? If so, you might need to run the Zinc batten perpendicular to the timber beams at the required spacing for mounting the plasterboard and affix to them. You wouldn't be able to run them parallel to the beam to decrease their spacing.

Typically, it is best to have an air gap between insulation and the roof sheeting. This gap improves the insulation value by helping prevent heat transfer.

I was told that some of the roof beams are too far apart for the plasterboard and I needed those ceiling battery’s. Or do you think it will be fine?

So, battens are run perpendicular to the roof beams @crystalM. You could run a series of them from one side to the other at the required spacing for fixing the plasterboard. Or, you could install some extra timber beams in the spaces where the gap is too wide. You can't use the battens as replacement beams as they are too small.

Well I already have the batterns so might aswell use them. Just not to sure how.
