Is it easier to paint whole interior of house with a spray gun?

Hello! I just bought a new house (3 bedroom) and wondering would it be easier to get a spray paint gun to paint the whole interior? It’s vacant and all floors are being redone so don’t need to worry too much about the flooring! I’ll be doing it all mostly on my own so looking for the most time efficient way/least strenuous. I’m wanting it all white so should be easy enough to match to the ceilings? Thank you!

Congratulations on the new house! Since you’re planning to paint the entire interior white and match walls to ceilings, a spray paint gun could be a time-efficient choice, especially since the house is vacant and floors are being redone. Spray guns allow for faster application and an even coat, which can be a huge advantage when covering large areas in a single colour. However, using a spray gun also has some drawbacks. For one, they tend to produce overspray—a fine mist that can drift and settle on unintended surfaces. 

Although flooring isn’t a concern, you’ll still need to mask windows, outlets, door frames, and other fixtures to avoid a big cleanup afterward. Sprayers also come with a learning curve; it may take some practice to move at the right speed and distance for consistent coverage without drips. Finally, spray guns generally use more paint than rollers, as some of the paint evaporates or settles in the air, so you may need extra paint for a whole-house job.

On the other hand, a roller has some unique advantages, especially for DIY projects. Rollers give you more control and precision, which reduces the risk of unwanted coverage on areas like windows and trim. Rollers also use less paint than sprayers, which can be more budget-friendly, and require less prep work since you don’t need to cover an entire room to prevent overspray. Although a roller may take longer, it can offer better control, conserve paint, and reduce the prep time that sprayers demand. 

In summary, for large spaces with uniform colour, a sprayer can save time if you’re willing to do the prep, while a roller offers a more controlled and less wasteful approach. Either option will work well; it just depends on whether speed or precision is your priority.
