What is the best product to seal particle board floors?

We are gradually renovating our 1970's home and want to remove all old carpets and lino for health and cleanliness.  Eventually we will replace with refurbished floorboards, however due to cost this will need to wait a while.  In the interim we would like to just seal the existing particle board as flooring.  What is the best product for this?

Just a heads-up that if your home was built in the 1970s, there's a chance asbestos may have been used in materials like older flooring adhesives or underlays. Before beginning any removal, consider getting the area checked by a licensed professional to ensure safe handling.

To seal your particle board floors, you could use a watered-down PVA solution as an affordable, easy option. Mixing PVA with water and painting it onto the particle board will provide a light seal that will help reduce dust and improve durability. Alternatively, a polyurethane floor coating like Cabots CFP is a more durable option. This will create a tougher, moisture-resistant seal, making it a great choice for areas with higher foot traffic or where you’d like a more polished finish. Either approach will give you a clean, sealed surface until you're ready to install the floorboards.
