Sanding, chalk paint, VJ panels and new handles helped transform an old Pine timber buffet.
The project
This is my completed upcycling project where I transformed an old Pine timber buffet and hutch into a stylish coastal-meets-Hamptons cabinet.
I wanted a fresh look without the price tag of new furniture. The project involved cleaning and scuff-sanding the wood, replacing the particle board with VJ panels from Bunnings, and applying a primer.
I then applied two coats of chalk paint in white linen and sealed the finish with a wax. To complete the transformation, I added black handles from Bunnings, giving the piece a fresh, modern look while maintaining its classic charm.
Steps
Step 1
The cabinet was in good condition but needed a refresh.
Step 2
After cleaning with sugar soap I started to scuff sand.
Step 3
The doors were all removed along with the particle board from the back.
Step 4
Applied undercoat.
Step 5
Replaced particle board with VJ panels.
Step 6
Returned the bottom doors with new black door knobs.
Step 7
Sealed with wax, waited a few days then added decorative pieces.
Step 8
Finished.
