How to prep a wall with paint chipped to the concrete?

Im painting the hallway of a 100+ year brick cottage. 

I've gone to chip off flakey paint and it's come off in large shards. It appears to be several layers of paint together and well over a meter. 

What's exposed now Looks like concrete. 

My goal is to repaint the room. I've got dulux 1 step primer and wash and wear. 

However somethings telling me that spakfilla isn't right for an area this big.  how to seal/smooth/otherwise prep this to paint?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about preparing your chipped concrete wall.

If you are looking at deep sections of light render coming off, painting it with primer will not be enough. If you've removed all the loose pieces and all the flaking paint, I suggest using Dunlop 1L Multipurpose Water Based Primer on the bare concrete before applying Dunlop 20kg Multipurpose Acrylic Render. Please make sure to give the primer enough time to cure before you start rendering.
