How do i modify the Mimosa 3x3 louvre pergola?

The Mimosa 3x3 louvre pergola is a free standing pergola with a height of 2400. I would like to wall mount the pergola onto the house above sliding doors (2500 height) and raise the post height at the other end by 100mm to match the change of height.

is it possible with that product and what is the best approach?

Any modifications to the design—such as altering the post height and changing the mounting method—could compromise the safety, stability, and compliance of the structure.

In your case, wall mounting and raising one end of the pergola would likely require significant changes to the design, which would need to be carefully evaluated by a qualified structural engineer. This professional would need to assess how the modifications could affect the load-bearing capacity, wind resistance, and other factors critical to the pergola’s safety.

Understand that im changing it but to suggest that an engineer is requir d when fixing it to the wall is a little bit overkill. The free standing has a wind rating because the 4 posts are stopping it from bending and warping in strong wind. By fixing one end to the wall means it would improve structural integrity, not weaken it. I guess youre no help.

I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance. I understand your point, though safety is our priority. I must base my advice on the manufacturer’s guidelines, which don’t recommend modifying the pergola.

Now I debated responding as I dont want to get burned as well for offering an idea/opion of your issue. However to back up @MitchellMc 100%

I had the same thoughts as to you are weakening the frame by raising one end. If you fastened the posts to the wall and it still all stayed square no issue.

Raising one side only brings to mind that the surface of the louvers are going to be at an angle straight up. They have been tested to be run level, not at in incline so we now enter a realm of best guess.

Anytime we modify from a pre-made object we break the warranty/specs of how it was built. I have built outside scope and understand its on my own decision.

The last part I will suggest. If you make a raised foot for the low side of the pergolla/awning and then you can attach the posts higher as you want next to the door it will keep the top of the structure square.

Unfortunately it’s not a project that I can advise on mainly because I have no idea of how the pergola is built and what impact it has not installing two of the legs. As @MitchellMc mentioned these things are designed specifically to be installed as designed and may not have enough if any support on the mainframe if the rear legs are missing.

This doesn’t mean it’s not possible yet. It means you need advice from someone qualified to look at it at the project in person.

Sometimes there is more issues and hassle converting something not designed vs getting something purpose built to your exact requirements. I’ve been in that situation myself.
