How to reconnect a toilet fitting?

Hi guys,

trying to fit an old toilet back in after toilet Reno.

i have replaced the old pan connector and pvc coupling as they were worn out and were sipping sewage smell through.
I'm trying to get my head around how to connect pan connector to drain/waste pipe.

The current waste pipe is 80 mm in diameter (see photo attached) pan connector purchased is 100 mm and I have bought a black rubber coupling 100 mm to 90/80 mm from Bunnings.

once connected I have an instance where pan connector meets a drain/waste pipe being not the same size. Would that represent an issue ?! The water flowing down the pan connector might be getting stuck in there as the pan connector does not go inside or over drain/waste pipe and instead just meets it and being a size smaller.

Thanks for sharing your question about your toilet fitting. It's highly probable that a plumber would use a coupling sleeve that goes down to 80 mm or a PVC reducing collar that goes from 100mm to 80mm. It's critical that all the fittings be airtight as any leaks will allow sewer gasses to filter in back into the bathroom. In regards to your query the travel reduction from 100mm to 80mm should not be an issue, but it's important that the transition be smooth with no chance of it having an edge on the inside of the pipework where waste can get caught on.

This is the part where the plumber's knowledge will come in as they will know the proper sequence of PVC parts and how to reduce the 100mm fitting down to 80mm making it a smooth transition. They will also be able to install it in such a way that it does not increase its height, and everything will still fit in properly. In this particular instance I suggest letting the professionals modify these parts for you.

Hi,

I intend to connect a toilet to the waste pipe which sticks out of the wall. The unit is quite old and the waste pipe is not 100mm as it should be based on the current construction standards, but rather 80 mm. I struggle to find product which would fit in 80mm pipe, any help would be appreciated. The current pan connector sold in bunnings seem to be suitable for 100 & 90mm pipes only.

I have listed below the possible parts that you can use to connect the 100mm pan collar to the 80mm pipe:

As I mentioned in my previous post, the plumber would be able to connect this while compensating for the increased length in the assembly. It's possible that they will be using a Holman 100mm Male - Female PVC DWV Adjustable Pan Collar that will fit into the taper level invert as it is a female collar. The rubber Jenco Joiner might also work, again the plumber would need to make adjustments.

This is an involved procedure that could even include the replacement of the 80mm pipe depending on how long it is. The plumber might even need to go into your wall cavity to cut the pipe work off to add all the extensions that need to be put in. I strongly suggest speaking to a plumber and engaging their services.
