Do i need to get the Hotwater system box to be painted. its recessed in the external wall as below.

There is no need to paint the housing of the gas hot water heater. Quite often it is either galvanized or powder coated and carries with it a guarantee on how long it's supposed to last out in the elements. You can check your warranty paperwork to get the details on the hot water system housing.
