How to trim mirror door on wardrobe?

Hello everyone,

I am looking for any suggestions how trim a mirror on a sliding BIR door. 

The problem I have that the mirror door is way too wide which makes it very difficult to access the middle part of the wardrobe.

The entire width of BIR is 1800 mm. The mirror door is 1150 mm, the second door is 900 mm.

I would like to trim it to make it a bit narrower, I would say about 950 mm.

How can I check if it is a regular glass mirror or an acrylic one? I assume it would be much easier to trim an acrylic one.

Thanks for sharing your question about your sliding wardrobe door. If your door was made of acrylic and you cleaned it with a chemical window cleaner, it would immediately become cloudy as the chemical would react with the surface of the acrylic. The acrylic surface would be easier to scratch and damage while a glass surface would be more resilient to scratches. A glass door would be heavier than an acrylic panel. I've honestly have not seen an acrylic mirror used for a wardrobe door. However, I am surprised that the door is that wide.

Please note that working with glass is extremely dangerous as an accidental application of force or an incorrect hit with a tool could shatter the glass and cause injury. I don't recommend doing this as a D.I.Y project. In this particular instance, I suggest engaging the services of a professional glass and aluminium trades person. They will have the knowledge, experience and tools to cut the glass properly. The best part is that if the door is cut properly, you could technically make another door for your wardrobe in glass.
