How do I sand porcelain tiles for attaching acrylic shower liner?

Good morning everyone!  I'm seeking advice.  I am sticking an acrylic shower liner onto porcelain tiles.  So, I know I can do it but everywhere I've read tells me something different.  One says use fine grit some say coarse, I've tried both and it's made not one bit of difference.  So my question is a) do I really need to rough it up for better adhesion and b) how? What grit?  Is there a better way?
