What support for hall coat stand?

I need to put a support piece of timber on an internal brick wall to bridge the gap between the wall and the supporting brackets of the stand.  (See photos)

What would be the best way to anchor the supporting piece of wood into the wall? Could I just use a strong adhesive tape? 3M? Hammer in anchors?  I'm a bit baffled.

Thank you for your question about mounting timber to an internal brick wall.

If the timber is going to be a mounting point to stop the coat stand from tipping over, then the only way I'd suggest mounting it to the wall is through the use of a mechanical anchor.

You'll need a hammer drill to put some pilot holes in the timber and into the wall to accept some wall plugs.

I'd suggest grabbing a Kango 3mm HSS Drill Bit as well as a STAHL Masonry Kit 7mm Drill With 50mm Green Wall Plugs which contains everything you'll need to anchor the timber to the wall.

Use the 3mm drill bit to drill a hole in each corner of the timber. Place the timber on the wall in your desired location and use the same 3mm drill bit through the timber to lightly mark the locations of these holes on the wall. 

Use the 7mm masonry drill bit to put pilot holes in the wall before tapping the green plugs into the wall with a hammer.

You can then use the screws in the Stahl kit to mount the timber to the wall.

This will give you a good strong connection for the timber that the coat rack can then be screwed to to prevent tipping.
