How to repair gyprock hole?

Hi, looking to repair a hole where there was a ac controller. I still need to remove the wall anchors from the gyprock which I assume I can plaster over but looking for advice for the larger hole to fill. Do I need to cut this wider and insert blocking and repair with a gyprock piece? as I don't think I would be able to insert some timber blocking into that as its an add shape. looking for advice and products

Thank you for your question about patching a hole in the plasterboard where an AC controller used to be.

As you've mentioned, the screw holes are small enough that simply plastering over with all-purpose plaster like this Less Mess Multi-Purpose Joint Compound will be fine.

A simple repair for the larger hole is to apply a Builders Edge 100 x 100mm Plasterboard Wall Patch over the hole and use the same plaster to feather out and conceal it. The downside to this kind of repair is you need to apply the plaster fairly wide to conceal the slight hump in the wall. Being so close to the fixture on the right of your photo would make this a bit difficult.

My suggestion to avoid this is to add a backing behind the hole and apply plaster to fill the hole flush with the surrounding plasterboard. 

Check out step 3 in How to repair a hole in an internal door. The situation is different, but @MitchellMc's method of creating a backing would be perfect for your situation. You can drive a screw into the centre of your cut-up timber paint stirrer, apply Liquid Nails to each end, slip it through the hole and use the screw to pull the timber against the back of the plasterboard while the glue grabs and then sets.

Once in place, fill the hole with your plaster, allow it to dry, then sand and paint.
