How do i replace the mirror on a bathroom cabinet?

I have the wall mounted cabinets that are frameless mirrored doors and want to replace the mirror? i cannot see any obvious way they are attached and think they may be glued?

Is there a way to replace this mirror or is a whole new door required?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your bathroom mirror.

Please note that working with glass is quite dangerous, an errant hit with a tool or if too much force is applied could cause the mirror to shatter.

Mirrors are usually glued in place to prevent it from accidentally falling out. Some manufacturers sandwich them in between timber to secure them. Can you please provide a photo of the mirror frame itself? This will give our members a better idea of how the glass was put into place. We can then make recommendations on how to proceed.

Thanks EricL, please see below. The glass is stuck down solid. i am not sure its designed to come off in once piece, if at all.

If the mirror is securely glued to the cabinet door and there’s no obvious method for removal, it’s likely that the door was designed as a single unit with the mirror permanently affixed. Attempting to remove the mirror can be extremely dangerous, as applying force to separate the glass could cause it to shatter, leading to potential injury. In this case, replacing the entire cabinet door is the safest and most practical solution. Consider contacting the manufacturer or supplier to see if replacement doors are available. If it were one of our units, I would be happy to do that for you. Alternatively, you might like to check out our range of wall cabinets as replacing it might be a simpler and more cost-effective solution than trying to track down new doors.

i think you are right, its a whole door replacement.. sadly. i have no clue what brand it is. i might take a door to Bunnings and see if i can land a replacement

Hey there, this is my first handy job, pls be patient!

I want to replace the black arch mirror to this custom made recessed bathroom cabinet. I'm worried the mirror at 5.6kg is going to be too heavy. What hinges would be best to reinforce it and can I use a block to secure it to the mirror bottom?

From your photo it looks like the cabinet door currently has a couple of lightweight hinges, so yes, I’d recommend adding at least two more hinges to help share the load of your 5.6kg mirror. That will give the door more strength and reduce strain on any one hinge.

The first step will be to carefully remove the existing glass mirror from the door. Be aware that glass panels can shatter very easily, so take precautions: wear safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, a long-sleeve shirt, trousers and enclosed shoes. If you’re not confident, it’s best to have a professional do this part for you.

Often, mirrors like the one on your door are held in with corner clips screwed into the timber. If you’re lucky, it hasn’t been glued on, which makes removal straightforward. If it is glued, it’s much riskier to attempt, as the mirror will likely crack. If it's glued, please reach out to a handyperson to assist with the job.

The new mirror is designed for wall mounting, so it has locating holes at the back to hook onto screws. To adapt it for the cabinet door, you’d need to fix screws through the timber in line with those mounts and hook the mirror onto them. Your idea of a timber block at the base of the door is a good one. It only needs to be wide enough to catch the bottom lip of the mirror and take some of its weight. A few small dabs of construction adhesive in the corners will add extra security.

Given it’s your first handy job, take it slowly, plan each step, and don’t hesitate to get help if you feel out of your depth. That way, you’ll end up with a safe, secure, and very stylish result.
