How to identify this tree?

Hey all

I've got this tree I've relocated from a large pot in which it stayed in for a while, never really took off or grew. But them removed from pot and put it in the back garden bed/corner of yard for more sun. Clay base with sandy loam and mulch on top.

It got its colour back and now looks a little spotty on the leave and feels a little loose in at the base now it's grow a little.

Question - any idea the type of tree? Type of disease and or solutions for the tree problem

From the appearance of the tree in your image, it looks like a type of Australian native, possibly a bottlebrush (Callistemon) or something similar, based on the narrow, pointed leaves and overall structure. Since you recently transplanted it and it's showing new growth, that's a positive sign that it's adjusting to its new location.

The spotting on the leaves could be caused by fungal diseases like leaf spot, which are common when a plant is stressed, such as after being transplanted. The looseness at the base may indicate that it hasn't fully established its root system yet in the clay-based soil. Poor drainage in clay soils can also stress the plant and increase susceptibility to diseases.

To help the tree thrive, consider these steps using products available at Bunnings:

First, apply a root-stimulating product like Seasol or Yates Dynamic Lifter, which can help the roots recover and establish more firmly. These products also boost the plant’s overall resilience against stress and disease.

For the leaf spots, a fungicide like Eco-Fungicide or Yates Liquid Copper could help manage fungal issues. Spray in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid leaf burn, following the product instructions carefully.

Finally, improve the soil around the tree by gently loosening the clay beneath the surface and mixing in some gypsum to improve drainage. Mulch should be kept a few centimetres away from the trunk to prevent rot and encourage healthy airflow around the base.
