Gyprock basecoat 45 for villaboard joints?

I was watching Bunnings' educational video "How to stop up villaboard" - a handy skill for renovating a bathroom or laundry.  In the video, I noticed that Gyprock Base Coat 45 was used instead of Hardie's Compound Base Coat.The former is actually the product for plasterboard (as shown on the packaging), while the latter is not available at Bunnings anywhere.

Does that mean that Gyprock Base Coat can be an alternative to Hardie's Compound Base Coat for Villaboard joints in bathroom/shower?

Yes, you can use plaster-based compounds like CSR Gyprock Base Coat for Villaboard joints, as they are commonly used in the industry and are mentioned in Villaboard installation instructions. However, James Hardie’s Compound Base Coat has superior flexibility and water resistance, making it a more suitable choice for use in bathrooms and showers. If you're looking for a product with better performance in wet areas, I'd recommend using James Hardie Compound Base Coat (4kg tub) for the best results. 

If the Hardie's base coat is not available in-store our Special Orders team should be able to order it in for you. Alternatively, there is the Gyprock CSR 3kg Wet Area Base Coat which will have the same water-resistant qualities.
