How to repair outdoor wicker chair?

Any suggestions to repair/cover this furniture? Only the tops are damaged so we want to keep it as seating for a second area in garden, it’s not quite bad enough for the tip yet!

Was thinking could use some off cuts off decking board or wood to cover the damage but also act as a shelf for drinks.

But open to any other ideas that don’t require me to buy new tools to cut up boards.. I.e. any kind of tough fabric or other material that might cover it?

Thank you for your question about repairing your wicker armchair.

I think the idea of using decking is a great option that will increase your chair's life and usability. If you have a drill, and some drill bits, you could use our in-store cutting service to have 6 x pieces of SpecRite 90 x 19mm Merbau Pre-Oiled Decking cut to the nearest 100mm, somewhere around 600mm is likely a good length. You could then predrill pilot holes and screw them together with Zenith 10G x 50mm Galvanised Countersunk Head Timber Screws in the shape I've rendered below then sit them on the arms of the chair.

 

If you don't want to use the above solution, something like hessian or clear PVC film could be good options for covering the damage.
