How to fix sagging wall mounted clothesline?

Hi,

I installed my https://www.bunnings.com.au/hills-26m-single-folding-clothesline-woodland-grey_p0170054 clothesline last year. I remember having trouble getting the hole in the brick smoothly as well as using the dynabolts 😅

You can see the clothesline frame has warped a bit, I might have put the brackets onto the wall too far apart. And now the one on the right has come off a bit. I can't get my socket onto the nut unfortunately. Could someone advise how one might fix the saggy mount?

You can buy individual extra deep socket cups that may tighten the bolts up for you. At a pinch long nose pliers might get in there just to take up the slack. Or take the nut off and place a washer onto the bolt or two washers so it comes out of the hole more to reach with a standard socket set.

As a guide you dont want it over tight as the brick and plastic can break. Tighten the nut so the mount touches the wall and stop. The slight clothes line miss alignment wont matter long term so no stress there.

If the issue is the bolt is loose in the wall I would use a bamboo skewer into the wall hole or two to take up the slack Use a bit of araldite or builders glue will also help fix the mount into the wall as an option.

Hi @barydos,

You might be able to use 2 x Stanley 150mm Adjustable Wrenches to turn the nut. You may be able to slip the tips of one of the wrenches over the nut so the wrench is in line with the nut. You can then tighten the second wrench on to the handle of the first wrench so you can turn it. It will be fiddly, but it may be possible.

It looks like you're going to have to file or drill the plastic to the right of the nut to allow your socket to slip onto the nut. This Trojan 200mm Single Cut Half Round File should be able to remove some plastic around the nut so your socket can slip over it.

You can then try tightening the nut as it may still have a little bit of room for movement.
