How to cut established tree roots?

Hi all,

Wondering if you could help me with some advice. I wanted to pave this area, however there are some tree roots that seem quite large in the way. Wondering if I would be safe to cut these or if it would just kill the tree? They're about 2.5 meters away. But also assuming I'll come across more.

Thanks for sharing your question about cutting the roots of your tree. I propose engaging the services of an arborist to analyse the structure of your tree roots. They will be in the best position to tell you if cutting the roots will harm your tree. They should also be able to advise you if putting pavers near that area is a sound idea.

As a possible alternative, I propose thinking about installing a low-level deck instead - Low-level composite deck over concrete by @diy_hausdesigns is a good example of a low-level deck used for relaxation and entertainment.
