How to apply clear resin to Red Gum coffee table?

Afternoon all.

Making a Red Gum Coffee Table (well..I've glued the top together but it's not too late to turn it into kindling) which has a few large (ish) Bug holes & splits in the boards.

So... has anybody used Protite Clear Casting Resin to fill said cracks & holes?

If anybody has used it at all, is it a very thin liquid, or that thick it won't fill small cracks?

Now for the curly one. Will it accept Resin Colouring?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I personally dont know that product first hand. But I am very sure 98% of resins operate in a very similar way.

That is there is a Part A and curing part B.

If part A is runny enough to fill the holes in your opinion, then when you're ready add part b and go to work.

Given increased amount of part B will cause the resin to set faster. Less will slow this process down maybe this will be a factor for you to consider if you need more time filling the holes.

As for a resin coating into any resin types it should be like a duck to water. I have added ordinary house paint to resin, and it worked.

Do you have some photos you can share of the slab of timber? This would certainly help our members offer their best advice.

I have seen a number of furniture makers on YouTube use resin such as Protite Clear Casting And Embedding Resin to fill bug holes and splits in tabletops. You'll need to mix it with Protite Fibreglass 15ml Resin Catalyst Hardener, following the label for mixing ratios. It will be liquid enough to seep into the holes, but you'll have to pour it immediately after mixing.

Your resin can be tinted with Protite 30ml Red Resin Pigment.

Another option is to sand the table, and then add the sawdust to the resin while mixing. This will naturally colour the resin with the same material the tabletop is made of.

Afternoon Jason.

The table has had to take 2nd place to things for a while. Hopefully I can get back to it in a week or two. Sorry to make you wait. The Transplant girls at Flinders Medical Center (Adelaide) said they'd like it to raffle off so it WILL be getting done.

Worked out in my head how the legs will be done & fixed on.
