How to replace head of Makita DUR 189 trimmer?

Hi , I’ve had the above for a few years now. The base of the head where the cord is wound onto is damaged . I since purchase what I thought was a replacement it’s a Makita four leaf line head  model 191D92-5 . It has a different winding mechanism although is meant to be for the same model that I have. Problem is the trimmer still has part of the head connected by a bolt and the new head doesn’t fit on. I can only assume there is a way to disconnect this part for the new head to screw onto the bolt?  Photos attached.

Hi @cazza2,

On page 11 of the product manual it shows how to attach and remove a head from the machine. It appears that an allen key needs to be inserted behind the remaining part of the head that locks the machine's drive shaft. Once the shaft is locked, you should be able to unscrew the head anti-clockwise. You might need to pop the rest of the head back on so you have something larger to grab onto whilst unscrewing.
