How to secure double gates to make them dog-proof?

Hi members , I would like to get a few tips on securing my double gates better I have x2 dogs and they have managed to push the gates open with existing set up what can I do to make it more secure I would like to put a single pad slide lock on it ? Or something similar to make more dog proof, Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. thanks

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jason43. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about securing a gate.

You could add a pad bolt, but it would be a similar situation to the current lock, where if the gate is pushed from the inside, it could still be opened. Instead, a hasp and staple secured with a padlock might be a more secure option. It effectively locks the two halves of the gate together, which won't let them open, no matter how much force is placed on them from the inside.

Hi Mitchel, thanks for your response to my question regarding my gates would I need anything else for the Hasp and staple set up ? Besides removing the current set up .

You'll need some metal screws, and depending on where the mounts are positioned on your frame, you might need to install some additional timber, @jason43. Hopefully, you can just screw the lock into the metal frame.

You should take a measurement of the distance between the upright steel frame sections and try to match that up with a hasp and staple of a similar size @jason43. This will give you the best chance of being able to mount it with ease. Or helpful team members in-store can assist with selecting a suitable lock.
