How to join earthenware clay pipe to PVC?

Looking for a glue/sealant to bond a PVC pipe into an old earthenware (clay) pipe.

Tree roots had entered a previous join made with the rubber and hose clamps system, so looking for a robust solution.

I have a "slab repair" PVC fitting that slides inside the earthenware pipe, and looking for an epoxy or polyurethane recommendation to seal and adhere the two pipes. It is a snug fit.

(in the photo, the earthenware pipe is at the bottom and runs under the concrete slab.)

Hi @Traveller,

Thank you for your question about sealing around a Deks 100mm EW To PVC Rubber Joiner Adaptor.

I'd suggest sealing around the outer edge of the adaptor with Sikaflex 11FC. You can also apply a bead inside the adaptor before tightening the pipe clamps to secure it in place.

While it is likely still possible for roots to break through over time, this will help keep the moisture inside the pipe, so the roots aren't attracted to it.

Jacob, thanks for the info. Small correction. I'm not using the rubber joiner adapter as that had allowed the roots to enter. I've bought a

Holman 100mm PVC DWV Slab Adaptor I/N: 4750190. This slides snugly inside the earthenware pipe, and I plan to apply a thin layer of sikaflex 11FC to the outside of the slab adapter prior to inserting, and then apply a bead around the join once inserted. The sikaflex instructions say an (expensive) primer is required for PVC, but in this case it is more sealing than glueing, so intending to roughen PVC with sandpaper and metho and use sikaflex direct. Do you have any experience in this situation?

I'm not confident what you are proposing is up to code.

I'd suggest speaking with a plumber at this point.
