How to treat lemon tree with leaf curl?

Hi, I planted a lemon tree about 2 years ago now. It has grown a few good lemons but I am noticing the leaves have a non uniform colour and the leaves wither even though it’s got decent water.

any ideas if this has a disease, and if so what sort of disease and how to remedy it?

Hi @Murlun,

Thank you for your question about your lemon tree.

There's some clear yellowing around the edges of the leaves which is a pretty good sign that your tree is struggling with leaf chlorosis. Leaf chlorosis is caused by a lack of essential nutrients, specifically potassium.

This could be because there is not enough potassium for the tree to access, or it could be because of a PH issue with the soil. Citrus trees prefer slightly acidic soil (pH 6.0–7.0). A high pH can lock up nutrients, causing yellowing.

I'd suggest you start by grabbing a Manutec Garden Care Products Soil PH Test Kit and checking whether the soil at the base of the tree is within this 6.0 - 7.0 pH range. If it is not, you can apply Liquid Sulfur to lower the pH or Dolomite Lime to increase it.

Once you've confirmed that the soil is within the correct range, you can add Citrus and Fruit Controlled Release Fertiliser to the base of the tree to give it the essential nutrients it requires.
