How to install pax wardrobes in bedroom?

I'm looking at installing Pax wardrobes in the bedroom. The current cupboard has plasterboard above the door which i want to remove to maximise the space but I'm not sure how to go about that or if patching the ceiling afterwards will be too difficult. Any advise?

Thank you for your question about increasing the size of your built-in wardrobe.

The first thing you'll need to consider is whether this is a load-bearing wall or not. If the wall is load-bearing, then it may not be possible without major alterations. If you have a copy of the construction plans, they should shed some light, otherwise, you will need to consult a suitably licenced person for their assessment.

If it is deemed fine to proceed, the general process would be as follows:

1. Remove doors, architraves and jambs from the frame
    
2. Cut out the framing, plasterboard and cornice above the head of the door
    
3. Install any framing that is required to reinstate the opening
    
4. Attach any plasterboard that is required
    
5. Attach any plaster angles.
    
6.  Tape and plaster any joins or angle
    
7. Sand and paint
    
8. Reinstate the cornice.

The steps will vary depending on the specifics of your design, but this covers the basics.

If each step is treated individually and done to a high standard before moving on to the next, it is not out of reach, but it takes time and patience to achieve a fantastic result.

I am happy to offer guidance along the way, but the first thing you'll need to do is ensure it is structurally possible by confirming whether the wall is load bearing or not.
