How to fix cloudy finish in epoxy garage floor?

Hi all,

Over the weekend I helped a friend epoxy their garage (after doing it successfully on my own garage floor last year) and the results were not as we expected. There seems to be a cloudy/hazy finish and we just don't know why.

Would anyone know what happened? We think it's either due to the etching not done right (I did not watch him do it as he did it earlier in the week) or there is leftover moisture on the concrete floor.

For reference, we used the Dy-Mark epoxy kit. Location is Brisbane, did it early in the morning (8am), temperature was approx. 26 degrees, not too humid. It did rain slightly the night before.

We're thinking we may have to sand it down and do another coat but just not sure if the cloudy/hazy splotches will show up on the second coat.

Sometimes not all the epoxy mixes in the bucket no matter how diligent you are like at the edges and upper top wall edges and soft spots, and the like can be formed on the into the floor.

RE mixing

There is one little trick to mixing epoxy that you might need, and that is pouring your best guess mixed epoxy into a finishing bucket this leaves the side portion % behind but them you know the finishing bucket is evenly mixed.

A new finishing bucket should be used each time in theory.

I can't say for absolute certainty this is your situation, maybe a call to the manufacture will help here as they know their product the best it maybe efflorescence coming out of the concrete at an outside guess can create a haze look

Did you use a topcoat? Sometimes this can be applied to thick in the layers are best built up.

Rain could have been the cause of extra humidity at ground level maybe put at job off until a sunny period of days.
