How to connect washing machine to kitchen tap?

Hi, I am new to this forum. Just wondering what items are required and how to connect the washing machine (front loader if that matters) to the kitchen tap/sink without modifying any existing configuration (I am only renting so may not be able to install additional inlet or drainage system).

I have attached the existing set up under the kitchen sink for reference. I am keen to DIY and would appreciate your thoughts or any advice. Thanks in advance

A warm welcome to the Bunnings workshop community and thank you for your question.

Start by having a read through How to connect a dishwasher as the process is the same.

You have everything in place to connect your washing machine, they have just been capped off as they are not currently in use.

Start by turning off the tap so no water is coming through the stopcock. You can then use multigrips or a pipe wrench to remove the socket and the cap to reveal the thread on the outlet.

If you put your multigrips or pipe wrench on the flat hexagonal part of the socket, you can rotate the socket anticlockwise (down) and it should come off. This may require some force as it will be on there tight.

Once the socket and cap are off, you should be able to attach your connector hose as normal and then run your outlet hose to the waste spigot following how to connect a dishwasher as a guide.

So I just got my new washer delivered. As it comes with free installation, I've asked them for help but it turns out that the tap size does not fit the hose (i.e. hose seems too big as attached). Is there any adapter that I can buy to connect these?

The guys also mentioned the tap should be facing the same side from where the hose comes out. With the current settings, it will bend the hose and may cause damage to the machine so they recommended I get this changed first before installation. Is that true? If so, is it just simple as moving the existing hose to the other side? or are they more tools or items required to do so? I'm sorry for these questions as this is the first ever time I tried to install home appliances myself. Thank you again

The socket that Jacob identified above is likely the correct size for your new washing machine connection. It will need to be re-attached to the tap and the cap taken off it. It looks like someone had the same issue as you and used the socket to increase the tap outlet size.

The tap could be spun, though that will create the same issue for the sink tap hose. I think the easiest option would be to take the sink tap hose off, attach the socket, and connect your washing machine hose. The current hose on the sink tap is then not long enough to reach around to the right-hand side outlet, so that would need to be extended. This can be done with a Brasshards 15mm Brass Threaded Hexagon Nipple and a suitable length of braided hose connector. Something like this Kinetic 450mm Stainless Steel Braided Hose Bent Elbow Water Connector should work. The right-angle end goes onto the wall tap and prevents it from kinking.

Be advised that this work includes plumbing connections and should be completed by a plumber.
