How to repair slate outdoor terrace floor?

Hello

We have slate on our outdoor terrace. It is covered.

However, it is wearing a little and some of the grout has coming out in parts plus some of the actual slate looks like it is wearing too potentially from water damage. I have no idea how long the slate has been there (newish home to us) but I think a long time. I have attached some photos.

We'd like to understand please:

• What is the best product to use to fill in the grout? What colour match do you think it is?
• How can we fix the actual slate that is damaged, if possible?
• What product do you recommend we use as a sealant over the whole floor to protect it from the weather? I am not sure if it has been sealed before.

We offer a variety of grout colours to choose from, and I recommend taking clear photos of your grout to a store where a team member can help you find the closest match. The aptly named "Slate Grey" colour might suit your needs, but comparing it in person will give the best result.

Unfortunately, there isn't a practical way to repair the damaged slate itself. If any pieces have chipped off or become uneven, you might consider using grout to fill these areas for a more level appearance, though it won’t restore the original slate surface.

Sealing slate can be tricky, especially if you're unsure about previous treatments. If it hasn't been sealed before or if the sealer has worn off, you might try using Crommelin 4L Gloss DiamondCoat Slate and Stone Sealer, as it provides durable protection and enhances the slate's natural look. You can do a test section with a bead of water. If the bead is absorbed into the slate, you are fine to re-coat it. However, if the slate does not absorb the water, indicating it is sealed, then you might need to strip the sealer off before recoating.

Before applying it to the entire floor, I highly recommend testing it in an inconspicuous area to ensure proper adhesion and that the finish meets your expectations.
