How to replace synthetic rattan weaving on outdoor couch?

Hi, 

I have a 2.5 seater and a single arm chair that I would like to repair where the weaving has disintegrated. I have attached a photo. The frame is metal. I am not very handy so any advice for a fairly simple project would be appreciated. Otherwise suggestions on what to do with this furniture other than throwing it into landfill.

Weaving synthetic rattan is a time-consuming process, even for someone experienced with it, so restoring the original weave might be a challenging project unless you’re very determined and have a lot of time to spare.

As an alternative, you could consider attaching timber panels to cover the areas where the weaving has disintegrated. For example, using a length of DAR pine board along the bottom section could provide a clean and modern look. You’d just need to seal the timber with a weatherproof finish to ensure it’s protected from the elements. This approach is simpler than re-weaving and would give the furniture a fresh, functional appearance without sending it to landfill.
