How to fix Bluetac damage to wall?

I really would like to paint the walls in our house but I’m worried that the paint is too old or just off and I’m going to have to sand every bloody wall. We took a few pieces of bluetac off the walls and it took a layer of paint with it as well. whats the best way forward?

How old is the paint you have? 

Typically you don't need to sand walls before painting. As long as the previous paint is stable (that is, not peeling off) you can simply wash with some sugar soap, do a light sand of any imperfections like previous paint drips or repair jobs, and you are all good to paint. For repairing the damage caused by removing the Bluetac, I would suggest filling the slight depression with Spakfilla and tapering or blending the hard edges of the chipped area into the surrounding wall.
