How to repaint a section of a wall that is faded?

Hi,

My living area walls were painted 3-4 years ago and I put up some wall hangings (laminated posters on board).

I'm moving soon and when I removed the hangings the walls looked fine.

However, from certain angles I can see imperfections like smudges where the hangings were.

The sun probably faded the main areas around the hangings as everywhere else is fine.

So of course when I bought a pot of fresh paint from Bunnings, the new paint is a little lighter in colour.

Can you advise a solution apart from repainting the whole side of the unit please? Thanks!

So sorry for the delay in my reply.

If the paint on your walls has faded over time, even knowing the original colour name won't help because any fresh pot of paint will appear brighter than the faded sections. Unfortunately, this means there aren’t many options apart from repainting the entire wall to achieve a uniform finish.

That said, if the paint you’ve already purchased is just slightly lighter, you can take it back to Bunnings and our team can adjust it to be a little darker. Sometimes this adjustment can bring it closer to the faded shade on your wall, and it might blend better. However, it's important to note that patching up a wall—especially in the middle—rarely looks seamless because of differences in texture or how light reflects off the new paint. For the best result, repainting the entire wall is typically the most effective solution.
