How to repair damage to plaster on corner?

Hi,

Trying to determine the best way to repair damage to the plaster on  a hallway corner.

From what I understand, this can be filled with a plaster filler and then sanded back and painted over (I have a small tub of UniPro interior filler from another repair).

Will the metal piece underneath need to be replaced as it has bent?

Will I need to remove the damaged plaster up until where it has cracked and fill that entire area?

To repair the damaged plaster on the corner, start by inspecting the metal corner bead. Check whether it is proud of the surface or bent inwards. If the bead is sticking out beyond the surrounding surfaces, you'll need to remove it and reconstruct the corner, or you might be able to tap it back into position with a hammer. If the bead has simply been dented inward, you should be able to fill over it without replacing it.

Next, remove any damaged plaster, especially areas that are cracked or pushed in, as these will not provide a good base for the new plaster. After removing the damaged sections, you can begin to fill the area with a plaster filler, applying the filler in thin layers. Allow each coat to dry before sanding it smooth and applying the next layer. Repeat this process until the surface is level with the surrounding wall.

Once the repair is complete, sand it smooth, prime, and then paint over the area to match the rest of the wall. The UniPro interior filler should work well for this repair, but make sure it’s applied properly for a smooth, long-lasting finish.
