How to install shade to the door?

Hi gurus

I have a room facing backyard and exposed to sun every day. Also, when it rains the water comes inside. To block this temporarily i installed the outdoor blind. However, it blocks the view, i would like to have a better solution to create shade and block rains hitting window.

The followings are what i have thought.

1. Making pergola

2. Plant bamboo infront of window

3. Plant a tree in a pot

4. Install sail shade

Fyi - there is a drainage system going under the backyard (2m wide from fence)

Would you recommend anything that would be easy to fix.

It sounds like you’re dealing with two main issues: blocking the sun and preventing rain from entering the room. To address the rain, it’s important to first identify the source of the leak. If water is coming through around the window, you might be dealing with a missing exterior flashing, or perhaps a crack in the window seal. Once you’ve identified and resolved this, it will prevent water from continuing to enter when it rains. If you can let us know a bit more about the leak and where it occurs our helpful members might have some solutions.

As for shading, your ideas are all valid, and each has its benefits. A pergola could offer both shade and a bit of rain protection, but it may require more effort and cost to install. If you’re after something more immediate, a sail shade is a great option—it’s easy to install, provides shade, and could also help protect against light rain. Planting bamboo or a tree in a pot could also work well for shade, though bamboo can get quite dense and may eventually need trimming to keep it in check.

Alternatively, an awning that extends out over the window, like the Windoware 3 x 2m Charcoal Easy Fit Awning, could be an effective way to block the sun from hitting the window. This would be a simple solution and provide shade from the sun for a good portion of the day.
