How to install floating tv cabinet on hollow brick?

I just got given a tv cabinet that's suitable for wall mounting, but I am unsure of how to mount it to a hollow core brick wall, it will only be used to hold some gaming consoles, games and a sound bar approx 80kg at a outside maximum weight. Cabinet is 1950mm long and 340mm high.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about installing a TV cabinet to your hollow brick wall.

If the cabinet is heavy to begin with, I suggest thinking carefully about the weight you are about to apply to the brick wall. If you were to use an anchoring system, I suggest using Ramset 300ml Chemset UltraFix Plus in combination with Ramset Multifit Sieve along with Chemset Anchor stud. I recommend a minimum of 8 post fixings, four at the top and four at the bottom of the cabinet. Just to give you an idea of the weight you'll be hanging a typical Mondella Rococo Rimless Back To Wall Toilet Suite WELS 4 Star 4.6L/Full is around 47kg. two of these would be close to the weight of your cabinet along with its accessories.

As an alternative to drilling into your brick wall, I propose adding modern furniture legs to the table. There quite a number of styles such as the Adoored Black Steel Angled Corner Furniture Leg or the Taskmaster 150 x 10mm Hairpin Steel Table Leg to give it that very retro look. There are timber and other steel straight legs that you can look at. I propose visiting your local store to see which one you prefer.

I just wanted to point out that if you have 80kgs of weight on the shelf, any of it positioned further toward the front exponentially increases the overall weight on the mounting fittings and wall. You then need to account for anyone potentially sitting on the unit or using it to place their weight on whilst getting up from the floor.

You might like to check with a builder or engineer whether your brick wall would be suitable for those types of loads.
