How to resurface rubber wood table?

hi, I have a dining table made of rubber wood with a polyurethane finish, badly chipped. I was thinking of using paint remover then using tinted briwax to resurface it. But I am unsure how to treat this timber. Do I need to seal it in any way. Do I need to put a finish over the briwax or do I need to make other choices. Thanks

You can certainly use a varnish stripper to help remove the existing polyurethane coating, but you'll likely need to sand the surface as well to get a smooth and even finish. Start with a coarser grit to remove any damaged areas, then work your way up to finer grits, finishing with 240 or higher for a polished surface.

I'm not familiar with Briwax products, but they appear to offer a range of finishes. If you're using a wax-based finish, keep in mind that it won't provide the same level of protection as a polyurethane. If you want a durable, long-lasting finish, you might instead consider sealing the table with a clear polyurethane like Cabot's Cabothane once you've stained it to your desired colour.
