How to install Swing Slide Climb Shock Pad Rubber Pave?

Hi there,

I’m planning to start a project where I’ll be installing the Swing Slide Climb 1x1m x 20mm Shock Pad Rubber Pave.

The surface I’m working with is hard soil, and I would like to know what kind of base I should use to properly level and secure the pavers.

Ideally, I’d prefer not to use concrete as the base, but something that’s easier to install.

Are you creating a space for basketball, or is this intended for a different type of activity, like a playground? If it’s for basketball, the Shock Pad Rubber Pave might not be the best choice since it’s designed to absorb impacts from falls, not for surfaces that need to support ball bounces. For better performance with a basketball, you might want to consider the Swing Slide Climb 1 x 1m Grey Rubber Play Paver, which would be more suitable for ball handling. You could even take a basketball to your nearest Bunnings store and test the bounce on the mats to see how they perform.

Assuming you're using the Shock Pad Rubber Pave for a play area or another purpose, the mats should be laid over a well-compacted surface, which it seems you already have. To level the area, you could dig down around 10-15 cm to create a solid base for the pavers. Using road base instead of sand is a great idea, as road base compacts well and offers a stable foundation. After laying and compacting the road base, you can simply place the rubber pavers on top. Their weight, combined with the compacted base, should be enough to keep them securely in place without the need for glue or additional adhesives.
