How to paint a stove?

Is there a way to paint an old kitchen stove? Everything on it works it's just the cosmetic aspect, apparently that model had an issue with the paint not adhearing to certain parts of the cabinet. Obviously I need something for steel that is heat resistant and safe for use on hot appliances.

Now this is a right hand turn and twist the head and look at a job 🙂 Interesting for sure. I really dont know, Im thinking it needs to be enamal, needs to be able to blend in with what you have still on the stove. And needs to handle heat.

I dont know of any particular paint off the top of my head. However I do know of a page in the great blue F social media world called The 1910 Ironworks He restores cast iron stoves and does really nice work. He paints them or sends them to be painted? I would suggest to maybe follow him and ask some questions about enamel paint.

Would be interested if you find something that works and holds up 🙂

Hi @threemonkeys,

It sounds like you could use White Knight 300g White Hi Temp Spray Paint. It's suitable up to 540 degrees, which is fine for the door front, knob shroud and likely the back plate.

Preparation will be key to having it bound sufficiently. I'd degrease all the areas, sand the chipped section back smooth and abraid the remaining good areas with 240-grit sand paper. You can then spray over the whole lot.

The stove top looks to be in good condition, which is great, as that's the only area in which I would be concerned about using this paint.

I was wondering if I could just bin the back plate since I've got a tile back splash. I don't know if it's something that needs to be attached for it to work properly.

This model is a weird one, it comes with an attachment that I'm supposed to put underneath the knobs to stop them from melting when I grill, there's a few reviews online where people melted the knobs off because they didn't use it properly.

I really hate that stove and I wish I could just replace it with something else but at 50cm wide and a 50cm deep bench there's not much else that will fit. It's nudging up towards a grand by the time I get it delivered and installed, a lot of money for something that's just going to be ripped out by the next owner.

That metal back to the stove is probarlly neccasary to help reflect the heat or air gap it away from the wall so there is no damage done.

You could keep an eye out for people dismantling old style kitchens to find a replacement that fits?

I totally agree with @Dave-1, it's highly probable that heat deflection is its main purpose. I don't recommend removing it.

I've been looking online but I haven't found anything local. I've then got to figure out how I'm going to transport it, have the old one removed and have the new one installed, the cost just keeps adding up, it's not cost effective or convenient to do this to a kitchen that's going to get ripped out.

There are a few models around but nothing currently in stock. It's an entry level property with very little wiggle room so my budget is super tight.

Have you considered removing the free-standing oven/cooktop and patching the empty space with a cabinet and benchtop. I then suggest installing a Bellini 60cm Ceramic Cooktop and just sacrificing the oven. But if you really need an oven, I recommend using a Devanti Electric Convection Oven Bake Benchtop Rotisserie Grill 45L which you can leave on the benchtop and not have to install it on a cabinet.
