How to finish kitchen wall for painting?

Hi all, i hope someone can shed light regarding render finishing of the kitchen wall.

Here in WA, based on research, we use hardwall/lime plaster after concrete render.

My question is that, are there other alternatives i can use prior to painting?

Concerned about the curing time, as apparently, above is 4-6 weeks?

Is there anyway to fast track that, or are there other alternative? Currently comparing Davco Render or Dunlop Acylic Render as both curing times are only 7days?

The Davco and Dunlop state that it cures in 7 days, but it also depends on the weather conditions and the application thickness of the render. The interior part of the render could possibly still be full of moisture. Unfortunately, there is no way to short cut the process. It must be allowed to cure naturally in order for it reach full strength. painting or tiling over it too early could possibly cause the paint and tiles to come off due to the trapped moisture inside.

However, please let me double check with my teammates and see if they are aware of any alternatives.

Internal rendering is not an area I little expertise in sorry. So, I'm unable to suggest alternatives. The one piece of advice I can offer is along the lines of @EricL in avoiding fast-tracking when the best solution is potentially the already in play and allowing the full curing time. Anything less especially at foundation stage will only come back to burn your back-pocket.

Having said that, I would be doing more research with those trades that apply lime plaster coatings. They may have a fast just as suitable product and/or process. 4-6weeks does appear to be very excessive for a common practice building process for WA. The hold up to finishing homes wouldn't be practical for this type of wait time.

I did a quick Google search "hardwall and lime plasterers coatings Perth". This listed suppliers and applicators and products. Unless I am reading it wrong, this product if it's suitable takes 48hrs to dry.

I am also afraid I dont have a lot of experience in rendering, let alone drying times 🙂 I have found that if I step outside the realm of whaty the product suggests as drying time/application or use then I will end up in an unknown land. So I would probarly follow the instructions on the bag/container as close to what they suggest as I can.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate the input.

I did tried calling Dunlop's technical support and the guy confirmed that 7days is curing (or 1 day every 2mm) altogether. Then can be undercoated or tiled over.

@EricL , wouod be possible to confirm this with your Dunlop representatives if possible?

Please allow us to give the Dunlop team a quick call tomorrow to check on the drying time and see if extra time is needed when applying a thicker coat of render.

Hi @atmatic,

I can confirm that Dunlop 20kg Multipurpose Acrylic Render has a seven-day curing time before it can be primed and tiled over. Note that "Before application of a decorative finish (i.e. paint), allow the render to cure for a minimum of 1 day for each 2mm thickness of the render." This is for a decorative finish, such as paint. Tiling over should be done a minimum of seven days after application.
