Best wood for workbench and garage shelving?

I am looking build a workbench and shelving unit for my garage and was hoping to use untreated 70x35 framing pine. However it appears that there is none available at any Bunnings store (that I can find).

So can you help suggest a cheap(ish) alternative?

There is the treated version (blue) available but how can I remove the blue in order to oil it? Or would I need to paint it?

Is there something else Bunnings has available that you would recommend I use instead?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your workbench.

The next step up would be the 70x35 blue timber. I suggest just painting it to your preferred colour. If you can't find the untreated 70x35, the blue timber set is ok to use as a frame for your workbench and shelving unit. However, I suggest speaking to a timber yard team member just to make sure that there are none in the yard before you buy the blue set.

Without planing all 4-sides of the blue treated pine, you can't really remove it. Non-blue treated pine with its greenish tinge doesn't oil well colour-wise unless you're happy with just a clear extra protective coating. So, I would take @EricL advice and speak to a team member at the trade desk. They will be able to advise through the timber yard the lack of stock, as it's highly unusual. It's possible the supplier has an issue or there could be stock on the way.

I'm in southern Vic and I can't say the last time I saw blue TP and we don't have a stock issue with 70mm x 35mm. It's possible there is a different supplier down here. Is 70mm x 45mm MGP10 an option?

For the benchtop, I would consider the sealed side up of Yellow Tongue floorboard. It's very affordable, strong and durable. Your could sand the edges smooth or fix a piece of timber trim to it.
