can i use chalk paint without sanding varnished pine bookcase?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Lene. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about painting a bookcase. Most paints don’t adhere well to varnished surfaces, so it’s generally recommended to at least lightly sand the bookcase to remove the glossy sheen. This helps create a better surface for the paint to grip onto. Once sanded, applying a primer will further improve adhesion and help block any potential stains from bleeding through. After that, you can proceed with your chalk paint for a smooth and lasting finish.
We have the Dulux Design Chalk effect paints and the Rustoleum Chalked paints. If you'd like specific application advice on either of these products, you can find directions on the can, or I can assist further. Please let me know if you have any questions.Mitchell
