How to fix stiff Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless 8" 20cm Pruning Chainsaw?

I recently purchased this product and used it once, it was adequate for what I needed but ive just pulled it back out again and the chain wont rotate..

I pulled the chain and bar off to give eveything a clean and while they are off the mechanism that makes the chain spin works fine.

The problem must be with the chain that now looks very rusty and stiff.

The advert says no need to oil the chain or bar but what should I have done to ensure the chain remained in good usable condition.

 

I don't have my receipt to return the product and I'm not sure if I could return it anyway as maybe I've done something wrong, Can I purchase a replacement bar and chain?

If your Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless 8" (20cm) Pruning Chainsaw chain has rusted stiff, you can restore it by soaking it in white vinegar or WD-40 Specialist Rust Remover (special order) for 12–24 hours, then scrubbing it with a wire brush or steel wool to remove the loosened rust. After soaking, rinse it with warm soapy water, dry it thoroughly, and apply a thin coat of bar & chain oil to prevent further rusting. If the rust is only surface-level, a quick scrub with a stiff brush and some penetrating lubricant like WD-40 can do the trick. 

Once the chain moves freely again, reinstall it onto the chainsaw and test its rotation. To prevent rust and keep your chainsaw in good condition after use, always clean off sawdust, dirt, and sap using a soft brush or compressed air, then wipe down the body with a damp cloth. Remove the chain and bar for separate cleaning, ensuring they are fully dry before applying bar & chain oil. To keep the chain clean in storage wrap it in a lightly oiled rag or wax paper. 

Store the chainsaw in a dry location, ideally in its scabbard (blade cover), and remove the 18V battery, keeping it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. Every couple of months, check the chain for rust, reapply oil as needed, and ensure the battery holds charge. By following these steps, your Ryobi pruning chainsaw will stay rust-free and ready for action whenever you need it!

When Ryobi mentioned that there is no need to oil the bar and chain, they were referring to the unit while it is in operation. However, if the chain is no longer recoverable, I suggest getting a replacement chain at the store. Please make sure to bring your old chain with you to make sure you get the correct size.
