How to lay wardrobe flooring?

I want to lay planks vinyl self adhesive to bottom of waredrobe, but I noticed there’s gaps and its specified to prime it first with bondcrete or Dunlop primer & additive so do I need to remove and staples and patch or fill in before the primer or will the primer do that , I am

concerned about rising damp but have had it treated and they said it’s ok as it’s all dried out , when they did the other room which is all they replaced half the subfloor, he just laid the tiles straight on the waredrobe floor and didn’t prime so I can concerned about that but I guess it will hopefully be enough & I got it sealed around the edges for extra protection maybe this is not the best choice for me to put in here with so much to prepare and I’m going to buy the coloured grout you recommended for floor edges for now to fill in the gaps , eventually when I have money I’ll need to replace subfloor on this whole side of house as it’s a lot of mould for my liking even though they reckon it’s fine I don’t think it is any advice would be appreciated thanks

I am on a time restraint as I need to get the room finished for guest and money is a challenge if there’s a better way then I’m all for it thanks again

It sounds like you're making great progress despite the challenges—well done for pushing through! You’re right that the staples were likely for the original carpet, so it's fine to remove them.

For the primer, you can apply it with either a brush or a roller. A roller will be quicker for larger areas, while a brush is handy for cutting in around edges. The primer should dry in about 30 minutes.

For the moulding, a construction adhesive like Liquid Nails should work well, and you can use a wood-coloured gap filler for a seamless look.

With the curtain or Venetian blind, if you're installing outside the window frame, make sure to measure and mark your drill points evenly. If you can’t find your plugs, plaster anchors should work fine—just insert the anchor first, then screw into it.

It sounds like you’re really close to finishing—keep going, and I hope you get to enjoy the space soon.

In regards to the staples, if it is holding part of the flooring down, I suggest using a hammer to flatten it so that it does not stick out. This will give you a nice flat surface when you lay your vinyl planks. If the gaps are not that big you can fill it in with Parfix 500g Ready To Use Multipurpose Filler. Make sure to give the filler enough time to cure before covering it with your vinyl plank. I see that some of the vinyl planks have been laid down, your use of timber moulding is perfect, it will cover the irregular edge that is near the wall.

In regards to the replacing the subfloor, that is something you'll need to address in the future. I also suggest having a look at this discussion - How to stop rising damp? by @baselofbakerst.

Thanks Eric, what do I use to secure the moulding so it dosnt come off a type of glue or gap filler or coloured caulk?

I also wanted to know are you saying if I just use that filler for any holes or small gaps I can lay the self adhesive vinyl planks once dry and not have to buy the primer?

Hi @angelique5,

The holes created by staples are so minuscule that you should remove the staples and just leave the holes. The holes left will not affect the flooring in any way.

What kind of mouldings do you have? A lot of them have an adhesive strip that can be used to stick them to the skirting boards. If not, you can use Liquid Nails to stick your mouldings to the skirting boards.

If the instructions state that you must use a primer, then you must use a primer. If you are using the Senso Self Adhesive Vinyl Planks, then the installation guide calls for you to prime the floors with Dunlop Primer And Additive. This step cannot be skipped.

I have bought products for finishing off today and if primer isn’t dry I’ve got a piece of carpet that I can lay down on the floor untill I’ve time to finish , my health issues are slowing me down and chronic pain but determined to get this achieved today, wondering perhaps the staples might have been for original carpet that was laid so think it’s safe to remove them , just concerned about mixing primer, what to use roller or brushes, and how long these things will take to dry so other than that the cheaper glue should be fine for the moulding or gap filler (wood colour) I’ve sanded mould from bed slats used vinegar and fairy happy with results so it’s just the curtain or Venetian blind to put up no instructions with this as I got it cheap but all the screws are there and it might be easier than trying to find studs and making sure I can find my box of plugs I found dry wall anchors but unsure if I just put the plugs in that or screws , so I’m going to clean up everything first then I will find my things I can’t find if you have any suggestions or videos I’ve watched a few & have done this before but it’s always not the best finish so because I’ve painted and it’s all fresh and new don’t want to stuff up my stud finder is broken but I do know the window will be screwed to a stud I just want the curtains to come outside of window frame this time
