How to build low-level deck next to pool?

Hi,

Thanks for the videos on low level decks - very helpful.

I am anticipating to build 2 x composite decks next to the pool area. See photos.

The shallowest depth is 120mm and deepest is 280mm (from ground to top of tiles)

Deck A (L-shape) is 2200mm x 2000mm

Deck B (straight) is 5000mm x 1130mm

Would you mind answering the below questions to help me out please?

Do I need to dig deeper to allow for the deck? (The earth is supporting the pool, so the less digging the better)
Can I avoid laying concrete under the deck? Currently it's rocky ground.
Can tuff-blocks or adjustable pedestal feet go straight on the ground or do they need to be on a sealed surface/paverDeck ADeck ADeck BDeck B?

There is plenty of depth 120mm for a deck and Good to use a paver or equivalent under the legs to distribute the weight and stop it sinking into the ground.

Thank you for your question about constructing a deck around your pool.

Assuming the ground is well compacted, and the risk of erosion is minimal, then there are no issues using pedestal feet directly over the earth. If there are soft areas where a pedestal foot needs to go, you can add a paver to spread the load and support the deck.

Minimal ground clearance will increase the risk of premature rot, so you should aim to have as much ground clearance as possible. In most areas, you will be fine using pedestal feet of varying sizes, but at the ground's highest point, you will need to do a small amount of digging.

Using 90 x 45mm H3 Pine Framing, with decking that is between 19-22mm on top, you will have around 8mm beneath at the soil's highest point, which is not enough space for a pedestal foot. In these areas, I'd suggest removing some soil so you have at least 25mm of room beneath the frame so you can use these Builders Edge 25-40mm Minifoot Pedestal Feet to support the frame.
