How to enclose brick patio for a workshop?

Looking to enclose a brick patio to create a workshop as no shed. Thinking perspex over the window holes (keeping wrought iron for security), changing pedestrian gate to an external door. The big opening I'm not sure about. Need a bigger opening to get a motorbike in and out (he's restoring it in this workshop). Maybe a sliding door or 2 opening doors (will need to open inwards due to step)? Hubby also concerned about cold, where we are gets 10c on a winters day. Open to all ideas!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about enclosing your brick patio.

In order to get a better seal on the windows and any other openings in the patio, I suggest building a timber frame in combination with the Perspex. The timber frame gaps can be filled with self-expanding foam to plug up any leaks. In regards to the front, I recommend building a timber frame and covering it with exterior cladding. I propose using bifold doors for the entrance which will allow you to open it to its maximum opening size. My best advice is to build a small ramp so that any item rolled in can be easily rolled out.

I recommend using the Jumbuck 2000W Black Matte Radiant Patio Heater to combat the cold while working in the patio workshop. I also suggest using Ultimate Flooring 1 x 1m x 10mm Black Home Gym Tile to cover the floor tiles of the patio.

🙂 Converting a space into something new that will be used more so is a good thing, A workshop even better!

I am also thinking of framing out the windows but instead of perspex I would actually go the route of glass, I would also make sure I put a window in that can be opened or maybe a couple. Mostly for summer when it may get a little warm. A glazier will be able to cut a piece of glass tahtwill fit into your framed windows. (I think it would like nicer then perspex 🙂 )

As to a larger door, maybe a twin opening or one where one side is a doors width and the other is the rest of the distance so you can acces easily without loosing heat and at the same time you can bring in larger items with a larger door.

Id make an edge along that opening that looks towards the pool, just to stop your workshop floor from getting wet.

Last thing that may be worth a try is to line the ceiling space with some insulation and then fix it in place with James Hardie 4200 x 230 x 7.5mm FC Woodgrain HardiPlank Weatherboard and held up with timber trim along the existing beams.
